Brush mulching is a method for clearing your land of overgrowth and brush. A special mulching machine cuts through the stems then grinds the brush into mulch. This mulch is then left behind.
1. No Burn Concerns
The other main way to remove large amounts of brush is by burning. Burning is a more in-depth method, as it requires several steps and you must get the proper permits. This means waiting for a day when the weather corrections allow for burning and bringing on extra people and equipment to manage the burning. Even better, mulching doesn't carry the liability concerns of burning brush.
2. Removes Unsightly Piles
Simply cutting down the brush and gathering it into large piles isn't the same as brush mulching. First, the mulched brush is in small pieces and it is left in place to mulch the ground beneath it. Large piles are typically gathered for burning or hauling away, but all too often they end up sitting on the property and looking unsightly for months or even years. Brush piles decompose slowly, so piling it up is not an easy way to get rid of the removed brush.
3. Limited Soil Disturbance
Soil disturbance can lead to topsoil loss through erosion. It also breaks down soil structure and increases the chances of further brush growth as old seed is uncovered. Brush mulching only cuts through the brush. It doesn't churn up or even break into the surface of the soil. This means that the soil is undamaged and ready for whatever future use awaits it and the land.
4. Avoid Hauling Costs
Another option for brush removal is having it hauled off to a dump. This can be an expensive alternative, though. Not only must you pay to have the brush hauled, there will also be dump fees. Although some dumps compost brush, others add it to the landfill so that there is also the environmental cost. Brush mulching doesn't require any disposal. Plus, the mulched brush decomposes onsite, which is more environmentally friendly.
5. Increased Value
The value of your property may be increased by clearing the land of brush. Potential buyers like being able to see a lot build-ready. Plus, cleared land is less likely to collect garbage and become an eyesore, issues that can reduce property value. When buyers can envision a build with as few preparation steps as possible, they are more likely to place an offer.
